Welcome to our Frost Community Spotlight! Dodgeball, drinking and common good? Count us in! This summer we were introduced to Los Angeles-based non-profit dodgeball league and community service group Eagle Rock Yacht Club. The adult dodgeball league has been hosting dodgeball games across LA, including Venice, North Hollywood, Glassell Park and Highland Park for over 10 years now. The Yacht Club provides an outlet for social connectivity through common good beyond just the sport. They host post-dodgeball hangs at a local bar, weekly meetups, kids dodgeball and events like their Sadie Hawkin’s Dance Party, which usually happens at one of Union Station’s event spaces.
The Yacht Club works with the local recreational center to develop programs for children in under-resourced communities in Los Angeles and San Diego including Yacht Grub (kids cooking), Yacht Plot (community gardening), Yacht Pix (kids photography) and their flagship program, Yacht Crew (kids dodgeball). During the pandemic they’ve been focused on more of their community outreach, most recently volunteering at the LA Food Bank and Southeast LA urban farm GrowGood.
Frost recently joined one of their socially distanced meetups at a park in Downtown LA. What a great time with the Yacht Club members and their friendly pup companions. We can’t wait for more“Pups & Pops” meetups to come!
